A Phenomena
Many people believed Victor was the Einstein of parrots. Guinness World Records recently contacted me and said the world record for "The Most Proficient Talking Bird" was an African Grey parrot named Prudle. At the time it reined as the unbeaten champion and lived from 1965-1976 with a vocabulary of fewer than 800 words. I recently started counting Victors words and he too had at least an 800 word vocabulary. The difference with Victor was, he not only spoke all these words, he knew the meanings as well, and put them into proper context using his own sentences. Victor was recorded speaking and making conversations where he would say several hundred words that flowed together to make his own wonderful stories. You can hear some of these recordings on the conversations page of his web site.
Here are three of my favourites. Before these recordings were made, Victor had only seen other budgies when he was a baby. After three years, I decided to get him a mate. This is the conversation I had with him a few hours after she arrived. I call it "To Know Her." You have to listen carefully though, because Victor is excited and talking fast, but follow the words I provide and that should help.
